From the 50s to the nineties PMP represented herself in the frame.
PMP collected coloured glass vases and insulators that she used to study transparencyt.
PMP worked 17 years for the EDMONTON JOURNAL as an advertising sales agent. She rose to top sales person before retiring and following her dream of an art education at Emily Carr College in Vancouver, B.C.
Her early ceramic work and newspaper experience I believe is behind her group of paintings that employ text or implication of text.
Despite, or because of a career in marketing PMP chose to self promote her work.
Part of her early training, an appreciation of the human body.
While at Emily Carr College PMP began a series of work on 4' x 4' plywood sheet and later, on stretched canvas. She utilixzed this format for the rest of her career. She named 2 series of works utilizing this format: the Homestead series and the Circle series.
PMPs early work. Oil on canvas removed from stretchers,
PMP's motivated digits, sideline activities.
PMP's collection of line and colour or lack thereof. Her mood work.
PMP's final painting was of the twin towers' collapse. Tornado and volcano had also caught her eye. The skeleton in the shower was in response to a brush with pneumonia.
Her black and white series coincided with American civil rights of the sixties and the consequences of her divorce. They were exhibited during the run of "In White America" at the Citadel Theatre when it was located on 102 St. in Edmonton.
Perhaps it was the "Journal Bomber" that put her life into perspective.
Strewn about the landscape was the architectural evidence of pioneer existence in decay.
